St. Martin day is a traditional German holiday, where the kids walk the streets, carrying home made lanterns and singing traditional song that celebrate the ‘Holy Martin’. He was a nobleman that was riding along the road one evening and saw a beggar in the snow, whom he shared his coat with by cutting it in two.
The German community in Miami celebrates this holiday every year by having a little parade of these lanterns in the community surrounding St. Marks Lutheran church.
