I’m excited to be on of the speakers at WordCamp Miami (again). And –you guessed it– I’m speaking about video (again)! Last year I got to do a lighting talk called “Creating killer video for your blog” and this year it’s gonna be a little more in depth presentation.
If you run your blog on WordPress, this is the place for you to be! You can register on the WCMIA site, but do it now, since they always sell out.
In today’s world of Social Media, where everyone is clamoring for anyone’s attention, it seems counter intuitive to talk about humility. April’s CreativeMornings Miami (@miami_cm1) talk featured the 4 people behind The New Tropic (@NewTropicMiami) and the lessons they’ve learned about being humble – most of which come from Han Solo.
If you missed this months breakfast–lecture meeting we’ve got the video after the jump – the event was packed at the brand new “MADE at the citadel” (@MADELittleHaiti), where a full house of young Miami Creatives networked, enjoyed breakfast –Thanks to KIND bars (@KINDSnacks) – my favorite granola bars and Lemon City Teas (@LemonCityTeas) for their refreshing tea– and learned what it means to stay humble (kind of).
[HINT: If you’ve never checked out CreativeMornings you owe it to yourself to do just that – they are in 110 cities around the world and chances are there close to you – you can check out the video on the next page.]
If you’ve never heard about the worldwide phenomenon CreativeMornings, you’re in for a treat! I recently got introduced to this curious event, that is part TED talk, part networking and always has breakfast. Yum! (Thanks Jorge for the intro) It’s a great place to meet local creative thinkers, listen to another creative inspire you and grab some breakfast. (Shout out to Mad Chiller (@MadChillerWorld) thanks for those delicious waffles and coffee.)
March’s topic was “Ink” (btw all 110 CreativeMornings cities talk about the same theme each month) and in Miami Andreas Schreiner from the Pubbellyboys (@pubbelly)–the driving force behind the Pubbelly restaurants–spoke about how to launch and run a successful start-up small business.
Andrew shared three important principles that guide his every day:
#1 Be the boss you always wanted to be, but …
A recent article in Creative Planet Network focused on my experiences with ioSafe rugged portable drives. These drives are perfect when I travel to the remote parts of the world and help me ensure that my still images and video footage make it back safely to civilization.
ioSafe rugged portables are water proof to 30 feet (10 m) of water, crush proof up to 5,000 pounds and won’t get hurt when you drop the drive that’s enclosed in a solid aluminum case from 10 feet (3.3 m). In addition to all that physical protection they come with a 5 year data recovery plan.
If you run into me in the jungles of Peru or in the mountains of Afghanistan, you can be sure that I have a few of these puppies in my camera bag.

When Rosh Sillars (@RoshSillars) wrote his book Canon EOS T5i – Digital Field Guide and was looking for a still photographer that is an expert on shooting video on an DSLR, he turned to Pascal Depuhl a Miami based advertising and product photographer, who began shooting video a few years back.
Pascal had just returned from shooting his first documentary in Afghanistan a year before this publication. He shares from the lessons he learned shooting “On Wings of Hope” and the videos he has produced for his corporate clients.
… but their not really designed to shoot video. Anyone who has been shooting video with high end digital movie cameras, is always impressed by the image quality these small cameras deliver. Check out some of the basic issues you have to be aware of, when shooting with these type of cameras.
Photography by Depuhl announces that “On Wings of Hope” wins MarCom’s prestigious Gold Award. The MarCom Awards honor excellence and recognize the creativity, hard work and generosity of marketing and communication professionals with an international creative competition that recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communications professionals all over the world.
